Mesmerize your kiddos with this fun way to blow up a balloon. This experiment is a great way to teach your kiddos about chemical reactions. When baking soda combines with vinegar, it creates carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a gas that needs a lot of room to spread out. In this experiment carbon dioxide begins to fill the bottle then moves to the balloon to inflate it.

Materials

-Balloon
-Funnel
-2 tbs Baking soda
-1 cup Vinegar
-Bottle

Start by pouring the vinegar into the bottle. Then attach the funnel to the balloon. Pour the baking soda through the funnel and into the bottom of the balloon. Now for the tricky part! Attach the balloon to the mouth of the bottle and carefully lift the balloon so that the baking soda pours into the bottle. Watch the balloon inflate!
